Leopard in Cave in Jawai Bera

Leopard in Cave in Jawai Bera. There has been a very long gap and I am posting on my site after almost 2 years. Will again try to keep posting regularly.  This female leopard with her cubs lives in the caves of this rocky hill. We waited on the opposite side in afternoon to get a glimpse of this family. After waiting for an hour the mother came out in between this rocky cave.  Leopards are very shy and elusive […]

langur backlit in black and white

BW Backlit langur

The moment I shot this image I knew its not a good image in color but can be good in black and white. Sometimes images which dont even look like keepers in color turn out to be great BW. I used lightroom 4 to process it in bw. Langurs are such great subjects especially for backlit. Photographed this on my bandhavgarh tour using nikon d300 + nikkor 200-400 + monopod (or was it bean bag doesn’t matter as long as […]

spotted deer with grass in antlers

Crowned Deer

Photographed this cheetal (spotted deer) in Kanha national park. I had expected to see swamp deers adorned with grass but a cheetal was the least expected. My guide told me that cheetal males do adorn like this sometimes with grass to impress the females. This was the first time I had seen a spotted deer with a grass crown like this and it was an image i dont get to shoot frequently. I wanted to shoot a vertical frame but […]

Collared Tigress Kanha

Tigress Closeup from kanha

After lot of cheetal and langur alarms calls and few distant glimpses for about an hour, I decided to wait near a jungle trail frequently used by tigers and other animals where we thought she would come out from. There was silence for about 15 mins and the wait to get a close look was nearing the end of our safari time. We thought she had settled down and would not come out but just as we were loosing hope […]

Rhino charging in kaziranga

Kaziranga – Land of the Indian Rhino

Just back from a fantastic week long trip to Kaziranga in the north-east corner state of india, Assam, known for its rhinos, and tea plantations. kaziranga is also home to other animals and birds including Bengal tigers, Water buffaloes, Asian elephants, swamp deers, hog deer, wild boars etc. It is also world heritage site and no doubt with so much diversity and beauty, I found it one of the most picturesque of parks found in India. Below are some my […]

Tiger in water landscape

Rajbehra Tigress in water

This was shot recently in bandhavgarh on 31 March 2011. Every time I passed this place I wondered how beautiful it would be if a tiger is near or in that water. One evening it just happened we followed the rajbehra tigress as it crossed in front of our vehicle and then went straight towards the lake. The evening light was perfect, the water still, the green sal reflection in the water created a magical atmosphere, it was magical we just […]

Tigress Barasingha Kanha

Glimpses of Kanha in January 2011

Wildlife Photography Tour, Kanha in January 2011. My First Wildlife Photo Tour of the year 2011 to Kanha was a success for me and my group and with sightings of almost all the mammals of kanha and a variety of birds and rare animal behavior. We were lucky to see so many animals as temp had dropped to almost -6 deg celcius(a record low for kanha) a few days before and sightings were very less. When I was there the […]

Barasingha Golden light

Barasingha in Golden Light

Rare Barasingha or swamp deer, the Hard–ground barasinghas (Rucervus duvauceli branderi) is found only in Kanha. Shot this a few days ago in Kanha, this male was unusually comfortable walking on the dirt track used by vehicle and also by the tigers. He walked almost 1.5 kms with us. I like to take images that have a play of light and this one works well. The Golden light just reflects on his body and antlers. Shot with a nikon d300 […]
